The fact that Beijing is now holding an annual classical music festival is a testament to the growing popularity of classical music in China, while in the West - where most of the world's famous classical composers have hailed from - it continues to dwindle.
The Beijing Music Festival normally begins its set of 20 concerts and operas in October with an Opening Gala. Opening concerts take place in the Forbidden City Music Hall and feature works by Verdi, Bizet, Puccini, Mozart, Strauss, and Lehár performed by the Orchestra of the Deutsche Oper Berlin.
