Chinese love their festivals! With a festival occurring almost every month of the year, there is plenty of opportunity to explore and share in Chinese culture with the locals.

Known for their warm hospitality, Beijingers will readily invite foreigners into their homes to wine, dine and join in the festivities.

By far, the mother of all Chinese festivals is the Spring Festival, otherwise known as Chinese New Year. Marking a time of new beginnings, locals get busy with cleaning their homes, buying new clothes, getting fresh haircuts and of course, setting off thousands of fireworks. Believed to scare away the bad spirits that could hinder their luck in the New Year, the pyrotechnic spectacle lasts for weeks on end. As exhilarating as it is, it’s not a bad idea to invest in some earplugs.
