Though China has yet to qualify for the Rugby World Cup, rugby union is alive and kicking in Beijing. Whether you play a serious game or are more interested in the social aspects of the sport, there are plenty of options for you.
Rugby clubs abound in the capital, which has at least six teams who play each other and participate in international tournaments. Nongda University is the stronghold of Chinese players, and their side includes current and future national team players. The Beijing Devils and the Aardvarks anchor the foreign rugby community as the oldest clubs in the city.
The Aardvarks are a fun-loving bunch of (mainly) students based in Haidian, while the Devils, based out of The Den in Gongti, bring a bit more serious attitude to their club and their sport.
The capital also boasts a Japanese side and the Xidong Brothers, comprised mostly of Pacific Islanders.
